What a week of hotel-to-hotel gravel actually involves
People ask us what a supported gravel week is actually like — not the highlight reel, but the ordinary shape of a day. It’s a fair question. “Hotel-to-hotel, fully supported” can mean a lot of things, so here’s how ours works, plainly.
The basic idea
You ride point to point. Each morning you leave one hotel; each evening you arrive at the next. Your luggage travels in the support van, so you ride light and collect your bag from the van when you reach the hotel. The support van is out on the route through the day — for a mechanical, a refill, or a lift if a day turns out longer than your legs wanted.
That’s the whole promise: you bring the riding, we handle the logistics. Routes, hotels, luggage, and a vehicle on the road — sorted before you arrive.
A day, start to finish
No two days are identical, but the rhythm is:
- Breakfast at the hotel, usually with the next day’s route already on your device.
- Roll out at your own time — there’s no mass start to chase.
- Ride the day’s route, with a coffee or lunch stop built in where the towns make sense.
- Arrive at the next hotel, collect your bag from the support van, and the bikes get a secure place for the night.
- Dinner, often together, sometimes left open so you can wander the town.
The point is that the structure stays out of your way. You decide when to leave and how hard to ride; the week carries you forward.
Guided or self-guided
There are two ways to ride the same week. On a guided tour you ride with the group, with a maximum of 10 riders per guide. The guide navigates and sets the rhythm, so you don’t need the route on your own device — you just ride. On a self-guided tour you get the full GPS route and ride entirely at your own pace, not attached to a group, with the same hotels and luggage transfer booked for you.
Either way, the support van is part of the week: it meets the group most days at lunch, so you can change kit, refill your energy drink free of charge — energy bars and chews are available to buy.
The best gravel weeks aren’t the hardest ones. They’re the ones where the riding, the food, and the evening all land in the right proportion.
What we look after
- The route — led by your guide on a guided tour, or as a GPS file on a self-guided one.
- Hotels booked end to end — comfortable, well-placed, bike-friendly.
- Your luggage, moved by the support van each day (you collect it at the hotel).
- A support van on the road for mechanicals, refills, and a lunch stop with a free energy-drink refill (energy bars and chews available to buy).
- The local knowledge: where to stop, what to skip, which climb is worth it.
What you look after
- Getting yourself to the start and home from the finish.
- Your own bike (or a rental we set up for you) in good order.
- Riding within your comfort — the route is there to be enjoyed, not survived.
- Travel insurance, which we ask every rider to arrange.
That’s it. A supported gravel week isn’t about luxury for its own sake — it’s about removing the friction so the riding, and the place you’re riding through, get your full attention.
If you’re weighing up a first supported trip, the tours page lays out each route, the day-by-day, and the pace options. And if you’ve got a question that isn’t answered here, write to us — we’d rather talk it through than have you guess.
Questions riders ask
Do I need to be fast to join a supported tour?
No. Most of our routes run as two paces — a longer Adventure line and a shorter Explore line — so the group can ride at its own speed and still arrive at the same hotel. The support vehicle means nobody is ever stranded by a mechanical or a tired afternoon.
What happens to my luggage during the day?
You ride with a small bar or saddle bag for the day's essentials. Your main bag travels in the support van between hotels — you collect it from the van when you arrive each evening.
Can I bring my own bike, or rent one there?
Either works. Many riders bring their own gravel bike; others rent one for the week. If you're renting, tell us your height and pedal preference and we'll have it set up and waiting.
